Most of all they are attracted by the estate and memorial museum of Leo Tolstoy, Yasnaya Polyana, where the famous Russian writer Leo Tolstoy was born and where he has lived for nearly 60 years. Here he wrote his main works, The history of the Tula Region is connected with many famous Russian people. These are the distinguished scientist, agronomist Bolotov, composers and musicians: Dargomyzhsky, Musorgsky, guitar player Makarov, writers and poets: Zhukovsky, Griboyedov, Saltykov-Shchedrin, Uspensky, Veresaev, Turgenev. The estate and memorial museum of one of the greatest Russian landscape painters Vasily Polenov is also situated in Tula. In the house, that was built on his own sketch, the painter spent 35 years of his life and created many of his well known paintings. He also founded a museum, which collection includes works of different distinguished Russian painters: Repin, Levitan, Vasnetsov, Shishkin, Serov.

Tula is an old Russian city, which life is inextricably connected with the history of the whole Russia. Tula is rightfully considered a city of masters: armourers, founders, samovar and harmonica makers. It is a city of small "chamber" museums, some of which are unique: Gingerbread Museum, Samovar Museum, Weapon Museum and other.
here he met many distinguished people of his time. In the forest Stariy Zakaz (the Forest of the Old Order) the grave of Leo Tolstoy can be found. Southward of the Yasnaya Polyana, not far from it, in Kochaki, a necropolis, the cemetery of the Tolstoy family is situated.
